Total Expenditure: The government is estimated to spend Rs 50,65,345 crore in 2025-26. This is an increase of 7.4% over the revised estimate of 2024-25. India’s GDP growth for the financial year 2025-26 (FY26) is expected to be between 6.3% and 6.8%, as per the Economic Survey 2024-25.
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced on Saturday that under the new tax regime in the Union Budget 2025, no income tax will be payable up to Rs 12 lakh, which includes the standard deduction, bringing the total to Rs 12.75 lakh.
For the financial year 2025-26, a total of Rs 1.37 lakh crore has been allocated to the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare. Of this, Rs 1.27 lakh crore has been designated for the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, while Rs 10,466 crore has been allocated to the Department of Agricultural Research and Education.
Enhanced credit access for women entrepreneurs includes long-term loans of up to Rs 2 crore for 5 lakh women over the next five years.
The Union Budget for 2025-26 has allocated ₹6.81 lakh crore, accounting for 13.4% of the total Central government expenditure, to the Ministry of Defence (MoD). Of this, ₹4.92 lakh crore—72% of the MoD’s budget—has been earmarked for the Defence Services, which include the Army, Navy, Air Force, and the Defence Research and Development Organisation.
The Mithilanchal region of Bihar received special attention in the Union Budget. Key announcements include ₹11,500 crore in financial support for the Western Koshi Canal Extension, Renovation, and Modernisation (ERM) Project, as well as the creation of a new Makhana Board for foxnut farmers. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman highlighted that the canal project will benefit farmers cultivating over 50,000 hectares of land in Bihar.
