Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium : Achievement of Odisha Government

It’s a proud moment for Odisha. Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium has a place in the Guinness Book of World Records.The Chief Minister, Sri Naveen Patnaik, expressed his happiness and said “That indeed is thrilling news. I am truly delighted that the Guinness Book of World Records has recognized the Birsa Munda Stadium in Rourkela to be the biggest hockey stadium in the world. I congratulate the people of Odisha and the team that they make it possible”.“ I am amazed that it has been built in 15 months. It’s truly a great accomplishment for the people of Odisha,” he added.

The Birsa Munda Stadium has located on 50 acres of land on the Biju Patnaik University of Technology campus in the Sundergarh district of Odisha and the Building costs: 260 Crore.The Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium can hold 20,846 spectators, making it one of India’s biggest hockey arenas.

The State Cabinet headed by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik approved the proposal for the extension of the sponsorship agreement of both the Men and Women Indian National Hockey Teams. The Odisha government has decided to further extend its sponsorship for both the Men and Women Indian Hockey Teams (senior and junior) for another ten years from 2023 to 2033. Odisha has become the first state to host the Men’s World Cup for the second time consecutively. Not just Naveen Patnaik, but previous governments deserve praise for developing the sport. If there is one thing associated with Odia pride today, it is hockey.
